Are You Living in a Spiritual Escape Room Without Realizing It?

You know that feeling when you walk into a room and everything looks normal—familiar even—but something just doesn’t sit right? Like you’re stuck in a place that’s quietly holding you captive, but you don’t see the bars or the locks. Maybe it’s your routine, your thoughts, or even your pain that’s become the walls of this invisible prison. What if you’re trapped in a spiritual escape room and don’t even know it?
The Quiet Trap of Normal
This week we’re unpacking a tough question: Are you stuck in a room that feels normal but is actually a trap? The enemy is clever. He doesn’t always come at us with flashing red lights or loud alarms. He erects an escape room, filled with objects that remind us of our past hurts, our failures, and the lies we’ve believed. These objects aren’t just decorations—they’re traps reinforcing the pain and keeping us from moving forward.
Think about your own room. What’s in it? Do any of these objects remind you of a memory of a betrayal, the weight of shame, or the constant replay of “not enough”? These things can feel so familiar that we assume "this is just how it is". But Jesus came to set us free from every kind of captivity, even the ones we don’t recognize.

Recognizing the Enemy’s Schemes
The Bible warns us about this. Jesus said the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). That’s not subtle. But the way he does it can be sneaky, like a thief in the night. That’s why Paul tells us to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11). This armor isn’t about performance or checking off religious boxes. It’s about awareness—seeing the traps for what they are so we don’t fall into them.
When you put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shield of faith, you start to recognize the lies that keep you stuck. You begin to see the room for what it really is: a place designed to hold you back, not a home where you belong.
What Does Freedom Look Like?
Freedom isn’t about escaping pain by ignoring it. It’s about bringing your pain into the light of Jesus’ love and power. It’s about asking Him to show you the locks you didn’t know were there and trusting Him to open the door. Sometimes, that means sitting with the discomfort, naming the lies, and choosing to believe the truth instead.
Imagine standing in your escape room, looking around at the objects that remind you of your struggles. Now imagine Jesus walking in beside you, not to judge or rush you, but to guide you out. He’s the ultimate escape artist, and He’s already broken every chain.
